GOOD Video Makes Good!

Not that long ago, I mentioned that ED in '08 was releasing a new promotional video in partnership with GOOD Magazine. Well, it turns out that the video has been getting around. Our web editor tells me that the video has been viewed nearly 300,000 times on YouTube, and has received over 2,000 comments. I've also been seeing the video embedded on various education blogs and websites, helping to spread the word about ED in '08 and the need for national attention to our schools.

The GOOD video uses creative animation and editing to demonstrate that America's students are unprepared to compete in the global workforce and as a result, the nation's economy is suffering. It's currently being featured on YouTube's homepage and nonprofit page.

Scrolling through some of the comments on YouTube, I'm struck by the diversity of opinions and reactions viewers have had, ranging from incredulousness to anger about the state of America's schools. International viewers have also chimed in, offering their perspectives - one commenter writes, "It's also interesting how the standard of education influences general attitudes too ... I have lived (and studied) in the Czech Republic and from a first hand point of view it was one of the toughest, but most encouraging, educational systems I've ever experienced."

Other viewers called the video, "informative" "insightful," and "eye-opening."

I'm pleased that ED in '08's message is echoing so greatly across the internet, reminding me of the attention and interest our PSA with Kanye West received last fall.

And speaking of videos, here's a reminder that now is your chance to contribute. ED in '08 is sponsoring the "Film Your Issue" competition, with a $50,000 scholarship prize for the best short video that demonstrates the current crisis in education and why the candidates should make education a priority in their campaigns. I'm a subscriber to US News and World Report. In the 25 February 2008 issue, an article called 'All Eyes on the Competition', referenced a documentary movie called -Two Million Minutes. Please tell me where I can rent or buy this movie.
