What You Can Do for Schools
I'm starting to see ‘Back to School' signs in the stores where I live so a new school year can't be far away.
This is the time of year when we, as a nation, focus on schools. It's like a second New Year's Day.
At ED in 08, we are working on new ways to put pressure on our presidential candidates to speak out about how they would lead us, as a nation, to deliver the schools that will prepare our children for college, for work and for the rest of their lives.
You, as a voter, have a big role to play in demanding that leadership from the candidates. There are strong pressures on the candidates in both parties to keep silent on this vital issue. You will have to force the issue.
What can you do? Here are just a few things that can make a difference:
- Get the facts from the ED in 08 Web site. Some of these facts are uncomfortable, but we have to face reality so we can face the future.
- Support the ED in 08 campaign by signing up with us. We are not playing favorites. We don't have a preferred party or candidate. Our goal is simple: Get the candidates to tell us what they will do to help our schools. When you join our campaign, you support that goal.
- Send us a photo endorsing the ED in 08 campaign. We have endorsement kits, but you don't need a kit to send us a photo. Make up a sign, get out your camera, round up your ED heroes and take that picture. Pictures have impact, and that's what we're aiming for - impact.
- Call your local talk radio show or write to your newspaper and demand answers to your questions.
- Confront the candidates themselves. (We have links to the campaigns at the bottom of our Get the Facts page.)
We are doing what we can to get the message to candidates. But we need you to make a difference.
